Spotlight on Technical Training:
Small Sided Games
Tactics and Formations
|
| |
Before I get going, I
would like to thank everyone that has contacted me
with feedback on this newsletter and the coaching
material that we place on the Kentucky Youth Soccer
website. People from all corners of the state,
country and even worldwide have provided comments
about the game, and most often this is where my
ideas for the newsletters come from.
The introduction of
small sided games are relatively new to the United
States, but even with the introduction to the worlds
best game we are lacking material to help coaches,
parents and administrators deliver the product to
the players. The majority of the country is now on
board but still there are a few organizations not
playing small sided games. It was only last month
that a local club contacted me asking for help on
introducing small sided games back to the club,
because they were opting to move back to playing
larger sided games for administrative reason.
There are many great
coaches who have written material on the benefits on
playing small sided games but there is little
tactical and technical information on how to deliver
this information to the players during the practice
sessions and on game day.
This will be our last
coaching newsletter till August, so enjoy the summer
Enjoy, see you at the Far Post!

Four New Lesson
Plan's
|
Below are four sample lesson plans that focus on
Match Tactics:
As coaches you devote significant energy and time in
providing the best opportunity for your players to
experience and enjoy the game. It is very important that
before you attend any practice session with your team that
you have a structured plan in place.
Many coaches also like to build a library which the can use
for the season, you can do this by writing your own plan out
on a blank practice planning form (see sample
Lesson Plan Form) or using other resources such as the
Lesson Plans on the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association
website.

A Letter From a Coach
By Adrian
Parrish
In the midst of writing up my monthly newsletter on Small Sided
Games, Tactics & Formations I received this wonderful letter
from a coach whom had attend a US Youth Soccer Youth Module
Coaching course which I had conducted.
The timing could not have been any better, their feedback about
the course and experience in playing small sided games just
enhances why small sided games are beneficial in player
development.
I have kept the left the associations and coaches name unknown,
but I sincerely hope that clubs who don’t play small sided games
listen to the feedback from a person whom they normally place
the blame towards for not playing Small Sided Games.

Match
Tactics: Making Effective Adjustments
During
This video stresses the
importance of adaptation in both individual
play and team tactics during the match.
Many times it is even necessary to change
formations entirely during the course of a
game, whether in reaction to a substitution
by the opposing coach, the score, a sending
off, or any number of other situations.
This program begins with a discussion of
basic systems of play and their tactical
characteristics and moves into the most
common tactical options for attack, defense,
and possession.
An interesting and informative match
follows showing the numerous changes made
and the reasons for each. For more Recommended
