Excitement filled the air once again at the
Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown on April 14th as
Elizabethtown Youth Soccer hosted the 2nd Annual TOPSoccer Festival. The
dreary raining day outside caused a few cancellations of the outdoor
activities but inside the community center was all a buzz!
With over 120 athletes, volunteers, buddies,
and guests in attendance the community center was hopping with activity with
music from J & W Kickin Karaoke and DJ Entertainment, a bouncy castle, face
painting, and lots of soccer oriented activities such as Popcorn Soccer, a
throw in Contest, big foot race, an obstacle course, lucky soccer ball,
soccer bowling, soccer hoops. TOPSoccer athletes in attendance were from
Elizabethtown & Radcliff, Hart County and Grayson County.
The first soccer game of the day paired the
TOPSoccer athletes dividing into teams and competing against one another
with the assistance of their buddies. The second game of the afternoon
pitted the TOPSoccer Athletes vs. the University of Louisville Lady Cardinal
Soccer team who joined us for the day to be buddies to the Athletes, a game
in which the TOPSoccer athletes dominated. The Lady Cardinals then took the
Athletes and worked with them on individual drills and some juggling
exercises. One of the biggest highlights for the athletes was an appearance
by the world famous Ronald McDonald, who enjoyed joking and playing all
afternoon with all of the athletes.
The day ended with Awards and gifts presented
to the Athletes by Kentucky Youth Soccer’s District 3 Commissioner Jeff
Hall, Elizabethtown Youth Soccer President Susan Masters and a huge pizza
party for the athletes, buddies and families.
Highlights of the event were:
- Elizabethtown Youth Soccer President Susan
Masters doing the "Cha Cha Slide" with some of the volunteers.
- One of the Athletes coming up and saying that
this was more fun that Kentucky Kingdom.
- Ronald McDonald racing the Foot Race and playing
soccer with the Athletes in his clown shoes.
- University of Louisville Lady Cardinals vs. the
TOPSoccer Athletes and seeing Coach David Slade get goosebumps and teary
eyed over it.
and most of off all.... Seeing the grins and
hearing the giggles of everyone involved.
Next years Round Robin Festival is scheduled
