2009 Kentucky State Open Cup

The Kentucky State Open Cup was played over two weekends in 2009 in Lexington, KY. Winners of the Kentucky State Open Cup advanced to US Youth Soccer Region II Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota June 19-24 at Yankton Trails Park.  Winners of the Regional Competition advanced to the National Championships in Lancaster, MA July 21-26, 2009 at the Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park.

Letter from the President

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the Kentucky Youth Soccer Staff, State Cup committee and the tournament committee from Lexington FC for their hard work and dedication this weekend. As most of you aware, we had to cancel many games on Monday due to severe weather conditions.  This was a very difficult decision and was not taken lightly.  Our decision to cancel games affected many players, coaches and family members from out of town who traveled great distances to watch their children and grandchildren compete, for this I am extremely sorry and offer my apology.  The decision was made as early as possible, to limit teams from traveling at all and to avoid long delays at the fields. In most situations we made contact with a coach or team manager, but in a few minor situations, we were unable and a team drove in and did not play their game. Again I am very sorry for the time and travel your team spent on the road.  We were able to complete the round robin portion of the tournament late Monday evening and are now focusing on the semi finals and finals next week in Lexington. Congratulations to those teams that are advancing and good luck.  To those teams that are not advancing we thank you for your participation and you contributions to a successful tournament.

Again I apologize to those who were inconvenienced in any way.
